Bluffton Optimist Club Donates Items to Lutheran Children's Hospital
FORT WAYNE, IN (Sept. 6, 2007) — The Bluffton Optimist Club has generously donated more than 500 pairs of slippers to the Lutheran Children's Hospital Pediatric Outpatient Oncology and Hematology Clinic. On behalf of the club, Karyn and Larry Gilly also delivered new stuffed animals and gift cards for families to use at area gas stations. The slippers and gift cards were donated by the Indiana North District of Optimist International, which consists of 55 clubs north of I-74 to the Michigan state line.
Optimist International began its Childhood Cancer Program about five years ago. The money that is given through the Optimist Foundation goes to research. However, on a local level, the foundation supports three hospitals in this district with donations of various items such as the slippers, gas cards, stuffed animals, games and videos. Items have also been donated by the Bluffton Optimist Club to Camp Watcha-Wanna-Do and the Mad Anthonys Children's Hope House.
