Cancer treatment often involves numerous specialists, procedures and complementary therapies, and can often be overwhelming. Lutheran Hospital's Cancer Resource Center offers support services that address everything from education and care management assistance to spiritual care.
The Cancer Resource Center team works with patients, families and physicians to help patients “navigate” the healthcare system from diagnosis through treatment and recovery. These navigators are specially trained to help explain medical information, coordinate care and provide details about additional resources. There is no cost for this service.
Your personal cancer navigator can help with:
- Understanding your diagnosis and explaining treatment options
- Coordinating appointments with physicians
- Emotional support for you and your family
- Personalized survivorship care plans
- Resources for transportation, medication and spiritual needs
- Services such as nutritional counseling, physical therapy, clinical trials, genetic testing, financial assistance, smoking cessation and home healthcare
- Communication between you, your family and physicians
- Removing any roadblocks that may hinder your care
Patients who have the support of a navigator are better able to focus on healing because they’re not left wondering about next steps. More importantly, they take comfort in knowing they’re not alone and that an advocate is there to help guide them every step of the way.
