Lymphedema Therapy
For more information about Lutheran Hospital’s lymphedema therapy, call (260) 435-6143.
Lymphedema occurs when extra lymph fluid collects in the body’s tissues, leading to swelling, stiffness, tightness and pain. It often affects an arm or leg and can make even the simplest tasks more difficult.
Lutheran Hospital’s certified lymphedema therapist uses special techniques to help reduce limb size and pain, improve function and decrease the chance of lymphedema returning:
- Therapeutic massage - redirects lymph fluid away from the affected area
- Medical compression bandaging - helps reduce swelling
- Compression garments - minimize the chance of repeated fluid build-up
Patients also learn proper skin care, self-massage, bandaging and exercise techniques to successfully manage lymphedema at home.
